OK, I’ve held out as long as I possibly can on this subject. Let me say for the record: I like the guy, I really do. I took one of the online tests several weeks back and was surprised at the fact that on several pointed economic issues, I agreed with Ronnie 100%. 100%! You can’t agree more than 100%!! On limited government, less gun control, freedom of speech, education, health care, the overall economy- we were in tandem! Still are! So why did the graph have me almost lock-step with Fred Thompson instead?
Hey, Ronald! It’s the war, stupid!
Because of the way God allowed our founding fathers to set up our government, America is the greatest nation ever to exist on planet earth! Period. There are those ideologies and cultures, however, that believe we should be destroyed. Call it religion, jealousy, insanity or just plain stupidity, but some of these delightful regimes include Syria, Iran, North Korea, Red China, and North Vietnam. Iraq was once a proud member of this prestigious list, until 2005. Then there’s our current situation with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Palestine and other Jihad-heads that want all infidel Americans dead at any cost. There are daily, sometimes hourly, security situations that a president deals with that we’ll never hear on CNN or Fox News. Our culture has the ‘out of sight-must not exist’ syndrome. But just because we’re ignorant of them doesn’t diminish the threats.
We need (and currently have) a president who understands these national threats; a president who will continue to take the fight to the enemy on their turf without listening to the pundits (what do they know, anyway). We need a true charismatic leader that can take to the world stage, command respect and actually lead us through these struggles without looking at everything through an isolationist lens. We need a leader not driven by popularity or polls, but purely by his OATH to protect the American people. America needs to stay on the offense to keep the enemy at bay, plain and simple. True conservatives know this.
Unfortunately for Ron, most true conservatives would LOVE to vote for him because of his view of a limited federal government, his stance on taxes, and his overall disdain for overpriced socialist programs that waste money (health care, education, welfare, etc.). Most conservatives would usher him in on a red carpet were it not for his ignorance of national security- an overarching, looming backdrop that we conservatives always have in mind when going to the polls. Unfortunately for Ron, he won’t win Jack!!
Ron Paul, had he a more sane stance on national security, would be gobbling up votes of the ultra conservatives by the thousands and possibly win the nomination. It would then be a gamble in November to see whose whiney voice America could most tolerate for 4 years- Clinton or Paul!
(You have to admit that four years of listening to either of them would make you want to scream!) And so, Ronnie is power-selling something that we true conservatives just won’t buy even on sale! He seems satisfied with the 3-7% in most states so far and I presume he’ll do a little better come next Tuesday, but will then drop out. (Bets, anyone?)
Ronnie seems to think that if he holds out, the anti-war Republicans will come in like a flood on Super Tuesday. (That’s the 3-7% we keep seeing!) Or perhaps he believes he’ll get some of the “anybody but Bush” crowd that chants idiotic statements like “No War for Oil” or “Bush Lied, People Died”. Well, obviously, these folks don’t show the intelligence needed to even look in the direction of Ron Paul, so he’s definitely miscalculated their support.
Bottom line is: Yes, the economy needs some help (though, in my mind, the media has made it look worse than it actually is). Yes, tax cuts are good (the Bush tax cuts should be made permanent). And yes, the federal government is little by little taking more of our liberties away each time Congress meets and passes law. Yes, we need to get back to what the Constitution outlined. For these things, I applaud Dr. Paul. I only wish I could endorse him for President. To all you Paulies out there, I’d go ahead and get a plan B- and fast! To everyone else, perhaps it’s time for a third party?
Peace,
David

Actually, the history of the GOP until the Cold War bunker mentality set in over two-plus generations, was the same non-interventionist foreign policy that George Washington endorsed and that Ron Paul still advocates.
Senator Bob Taft of Ohio, in the 40’s and early 50’s known as “Mr. Republican,” was a non-interventionist, and he was beaten out for the GOP presidential nomination by Ike. (The Democrats also had approached General Eisenhower about running as a Democrat.)
Authentic, traditional conservatives have always frowned upon foreign wars or any war that wasn’t purely defensive. For many years the Democrats were known, not necessarily fairly, as the pro-war party. (Woodrow Wilson who campaigned against entry into WWI and then did a flip-flop while in office was condemned by his opponents’ slogan: ‘He Got Us Into War’)
If you were born after about 1970, you probably heard very little about this because the ‘hawk’ type of Republican was ascendant. The “New Right” with its militant foreign policy shoved the “Old Right” into the minority.
But older Americans, especially the conservatives, are happy that once again the GOP has candidates who wish to return it to the being the party of peace and prosperity, small government, respect for the Constitution, and telling the truth, none of which characteristics are apparent any longer judging by the words and actions of the GOP in recent years.

If the threat of terrorism is so great that we must take over foreign countries to chase them, why do we leave our southern border so open that any yahoo functional illiterate from Latin America can get in? Al Queda operatives are coming in with them.
Why is GW in favor of Z visas and amnesty for border jumpers? The war on terror is like the war on drugs and the IRS. The real threat is the power they give to the feds to invade our personal lives and steal our civil liberties.
Dr. Paul’s open vocal opposition to the war is indeed costing him the proud to be American vote. It is also making him lots of money on the internet. The tanking economy and cost of our huge government will force his views to front and center in the coming years.
God Bless Dr. and Mrs. Paul and their family for making the sacrifice to bring the Constitution front and center in this campaign season.

I watched the debates last night on, gasp, CNN, and i was very impressed with what Ron Paul had to say. But, most of the questions were aimed at Romney and McCain. Huckabee wasn’t real excited towards their biased questioning. Ron Paul seems like he would make a great 3rd party Candidate. He could run as a constitutionalist…..

Right after Saddam was hung would have been the right time to bring American troops out of Iraq. The country can’t afford to keep a military presence in Iraq indefinately when they didn’t fly planes into the WTC towers! Ron Paul is the best Republican I’ve seen running for President in quite some time. I plan to vote for him this Tuesday in the MO primary. Hopefully enough others will vote for him to get him elected President. Vote for the President this country needs: PAUL FOR PRESIDENT
